Preference Mapping and Modelling – HOCS7 – 4th Nov 2025

Product code: HOCS-C14-C13

Online training

November 4, 2025 - November 4, 2025

Virtual option available

1300 -1500 hrs: Module C14 – Analysis of Consumer Data: Modelling the link between liking (means or by individual consumer) and the perceptual product space to visualise the link between product characteristics & preferences – External Preference Mapping

Topic covered:

  • A graphical modelling technique to visualise how liking (by individual consumer or on average) varies over a product space and to thus predict “sweet spots” in the sensory space

1530 – 1730hrs: Module C13 – Analysis of Consumer Data: Predicting product performance from existing data using machine learning methods – Partial Least Squares Modelling (PLS)

Topics covered:

  • Technique to build regression models to predict one block of correlated data from another.
  • The application illustrated is building models to predict liking (from sensory/formulation data.

Pre-requisite: familiarity with correlation, regression, variance and covariance  as covered in module C1 and C2, and topics covered in statistical refresher module C01

Software used: XLSTAT (see below)

This is just two modules from the Statistical analysis of consumer data training course. For a full list of course modules have a look at our website here: https://www.qistatistics.co.uk/product-category/training/sensory-consumer/
